WELCA
(Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America)
The role of women at Immanuel Lutheran has changed dramatically since 1896, just as it has changed in society. From not even being included on the membership roll to leading the church council, women have come a long way toward being a recognized force at Immanuel.

Currently, the women at Immanuel function as a loosely organized but effective group. They are very productive in supporting Lutheran World Relief (LWR) and other local charities.

Lutheran World Relief - Projects to support LWR include making quilts, personal care kits, school kits and fabric kits. Over the years, thousands of items have been donated. Immanuel has been blessed by those who contribute by sewing at home and from the Prairie Central High School Family and Consumer Sciences class. Many hands working together yields significant results to help others in need.

In the past couple of years, sweat equity hours earned by the quilt makers have allowed them to make donations through Immanuel's Matthew 25 Project to charities such as Recycling Furniture to Families, Home Sweet Home Ministries, Pontiac Hope Pregnancy Center, Bloomington Bed Blitz Project, CASA-Court Appointed Special Advocates, Colfax and Fairbury Food Pantries, and other charities.

In 2024, the funds earned from our sweat equity hours were donated to The Baby Fold, Recycling Furniture for Families, and Lutheran Disaster Relief for hurricane victims.

In addition, the women unite to assist in needs that arise in our community such as serious illnesses or other personal crises.

Funeral Dinners - The ladies (and men) of Immanuel host comforting funeral dinners. This gracious act of hospitality is possible with the help of those who organize, prepare and serve food and help clean up.

All help of any kind is always welcome as we work together to take care of our brothers and sisters in Christ.
